Paula’s Choice AHA 8% Gel Exfoliant
Here we are in the middle of winter, and tis’ the season for dry, dehydrated skin. Do yourself a favor and add a chemical exfoliant to your skin care routine to help prevent dead skin cells from building up, mixing with your skin’s natural oils and leaving your skin dull, flakey and clogged.
I’ve been a fan of Paula Begoun’s products for going on 7 years now. Her 8% AHA Gel Exfoliant is a staple in my beauty arsenal because it’s effective, easy to use, and plays nicely with other products. Just apply a dime-sized amount after you cleanse and tone, and then apply your moisturizer and sunscreen.
What are AHA’s and what do they do?
Alpha Hydroxy Acids such as glycolic, lactic, and triple-fruit acids are chemical exfoliants derived from foods such as fruits and milk. Used at the proper concentration (between 5 to 10% for daily use), AHA’s gently dissolve the bonds that hold together dead skin cells and allows them to slough off.
Should I use AHA exfoliants?
AHA’s exfoliants are ideal for those with dry skin, aging skin (natural exfoliation tends to slow as the skin ages), and sun damage. They work to exfoliate the surface of the skin, which improves moisture retention and allows your other treatments and moisturizers to penetrate the skin more effectively. Regular exfolation also keeps dead skin cells and sebum from building up and clogging pores.
